ALAN MOORE’S HALO JONES IN COLOR FOR THE FIRST TIME

This spring, Rebellion brings a classic work of science-fiction, Alan Moore and Ian Gibson’s The Ballad of Halo Jones, back in to print in three remastered volumes, newly colored by Barbara Nosenzo. A galaxy-spanning story, comics’ first bona fide feminist space opera, and the first true epic to grace the bibliography of arguably the greatest comic book writer the world has ever known.

Halo Jones first appeared July 1984 in five-page instalments in the pages of the weekly British comi2000 AD and is regarded as one of the high points of 2000 AD. The eponymous heroine is a highly sympathetic 50th-century everywoman, and the tone of the strip runs from the comic to the poignant. The three “books” span more than ten years of her life, and also serve as a tour of the well-realized futuristic universe which Moore and Gibson created. Originally, Halo Jones was planned to run to nine books, chronicling Halo’s life from adolescence through old age. However, the series was discontinued after three books due to a dispute between Moore and Fleetway, the magazine’s publishers, over the intellectual property rights of the characters Moore and Gibson had co-created.

Halo Jones is an ordinary unemployed teenager living on a crowded and oppressive housing project floating off the coast of Manhattan. Desperate to leave her humdrum life, she escapes as a stewardess aboard a luxury space-liner but a chance encounter has ramifications far beyond Earth. And after she enlists in a dehumanizing interstellar war she becomes embroiled in an unlikely and complicated romance, her humanity tested and strained as she matures.

Comic legend Alan Moore’s highly influential classic of British comics is now presented to a new generation coloured and remastered for the very first time! The first book will be out this May, the second in July and the third in September.
